It is the season of wild flowers here in Southern California where every scrubby patch of overgrowth becomes a blossoming prairie. I’ve been enjoying sharing some of these beautiful florals on my reels the last couple of weeks - head over if you need a moment to stop and smell the flowers 💐
The call of the wild... do you feel a pull towards being outdoors at this time of year, regardless of the weather? We are a beach family at heart but I’m hoping that this is the year we get into hiking too - now that the girls are a little older and the stroller is a thing of the past.
I don’t know who needs to hear this today (actually I do and it’s me - but maybe you too?). Sometimes our creative or business ideas seem too big and overwhelming so we fall in to the trap of thinking through every possible scenario before we feel able to begin. It’s good to remind ourselves that everyone else is figuring stuff out as they go and it’s ok for us to do that to.
Are you a colorful dresser? I have always appreciated those whose wardrobes are a rainbow of color and can make combining patterns and textures look effortless. Alas I am not one of them - but I am trying. After nearly two years here on the West Coast, and with my London commutes firmly in the past, the navy blue, black and grey (once my favorite color!) are receding from my wardrobe and color is sprouting up.
Do you ever start a project with the best intentions then put the whole thing on hold at the first bump in the road? Or is this just me...
We’re getting ready to take our first trip with Finn - just a few days in the desert for Spring Break but I am looking forward to us having some fun pool time as a family.
Have you ever tried lino printing? There is a new tutorial on my blog which shows you how to turn your pet’s paw print into a reusable lino print in 5 easy steps. This project is something anyone and everyone can do - you don’t need mad drawing skills, or even a steady hand. Get ready to delight in the printing process as you create a work of art fit to grace your wall and let your pet know he’s found his forever home!
Visiting Swedish painter Carl Larsson’s house is one of my most memorable experiences - right up there with Charleston Farmhouse, country residence of the Bloomsbury set. I guess I just have a thing for artists houses? One thing they have in common is that their occupants didn’t confine themselves to the canvases in their studios but treated the whole house like a giant, living, breathing (and always evolving) work of art.
Does anyone else feel like as they get older the seasons get shorter? I was going to write about how happy I was that Spring has arrived but then I realized that one quarter of the year is already behind us... A cosy season of quiet and candlelight that has been replaced with a yearning to look outwards instead of inwards - and then that too will be replaced by actually being outside all of the time once Summer arrives...
